Giving Opinion!

 Hello everyone,

I going to talk about controversial issue in Chile, the inmigration.

In Chile, the phenomenon of immigration is growing more and more. It is increasingly common that when walking on the street, squares and parks, you can see people of different nationalities.

When you talk to Chilean people about the phenomenon of immigration in Chile, generally, there are two marked positions about immigrants, on the one hand, there are people who think that immigrants are "invading" the country, that these people "come to take jobs away from Chileans ", or that immigrants are criminals. On the other hand, there are people who think that immigrants are people with the same rights as Chilean citizens, that it is beneficial for more immigrants to arrive because that is how Chile increases cultural diversity, gastronomy, customs, etc.

However, the immigration phenomenon in Chile is not recent or localized, immigration in Chile starts from the colony onward, with government incentives, such as the Germans who populated the city of Valdivia.

However, in Chile it is possible to warn
a hierarchy of immigrant populations in the country, existing
Stereotyped and stigmatizing perceptions associated with certain
immigrant communities with "social problems" (Tijoux, 2015), and within this hierarchy in the base is made up of people who come from Latino America.

I leave the reflection on immigration in Chile, however it is not common for people from a country in Latino America to call them immigrants and people from Europe to call them foreigners

  1. the last idea is so true!, nobody talk about the "german immigrant" or "asiatic immigrant", they are the foreign that come to "improve the race" or "to invest on the country"

  2. I think that there is too much discrimination in this country towards immigrants, but that, as you indicate, it is concentrated only in populations of Latin America or other poor countries, and it is said that they come "to steal work". On the other hand, if they are richer countries, they do not consider themselves as immigrants, and moreover, they are even considered contributions for society.
